Everyone knows The Four Seasons, even if they don’t know that they know them – their inclusion in over 100 movies and tv shows, along with their incredibly vivid auditory illustrations – has helped them transcend their form as 18th-century concerti to universal culture.

Inspired by poetry and brought to life by one of the greatest geniuses of the Italian Baroque era, Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons has been a favorite of musicians and audiences alike throughout history. Now experience it in a new way when four of our own Grand Rapids Symphony family players will each bring Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter to life, and into your home! We ring in the new year – and the new decade! – with Vivaldi’s evocative The Four Seasons. This beloved piece, which will feature dynamic young violinist Randall Goosby, brings to life babbling brooks, summer storms, hunting parties, and cozy winter fires. Frederick Swann is the soloist in Josef Rheinberger’s Concerto for Organ and Orchestra in G minor with the Four Seasons Symphony on Friday at the Crystal Cathedral, 12141 Lewis St., Garden Grove.

Lots more: Vivaldi wrote over four hundred concerti, and these are just four of them. On a much smaller scale, The Four Seasons is part of a set of twelve concerti titled “The Contest of Harmony and Invention,” a personal project for Vivaldi to see how far he could push his creative genius while maintaining contemporary compositional guidelines. The result may have been beyond even Vivaldi’s expectations: he had composed the gold standard for programmatic music, long before it became either popular or popular practice. In other words: Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony? Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben? Prokofiev’s Lieutenant Kije Suite? All in great debt to a composer who happened upon a set of anonymous sonnets and decided to give himself a challenge. Each season is a set of three movements or ‘scenes,’ following the traditional “fast-slow-fast” tempo structure; here’s what you’ll hear:

Spring: Birdsong dominates over the rumble of a potential thunderstorm; a sleeping goatherd lazes with his loyal canine, who barks – and yes, the violin soloist has to individually interpret “bark” – and a country dance concludes the first set.

Summer: the weather has become hot in the way that makes you appreciate every little breeze and hate every little mosquito bite, and a thunderstorm rolls right through to cool everyone down.

Autumn: The country dancing is back, and so is drinking and hunting!

Winter: The nice weather has gone, and in its place is vicious, bone-chilling, teeth-chattering cold. Luckily, there’s time to watch the rain come down by a cozy fire between outdoor forays. However, the time comes when you have to go back outside and the cold – and the ice – are waiting for you.

Forgotten Seasons is a Creation that adds Runoff Caverns, a large Dwemer ruin full of puzzles. It was released on December 6, 2018 for 1200 CC Credits.

The ruins feature sections themed after the four seasons: Spring's Symphony, Winter's Chimes, Summer's Chords, and Autumn's Bells. Within Vardnknd are powerful artifacts, such as a Dwarven horse (also called a vamidium), an arcane crown, a Dwarven drone fly, and others whose enchantments are based on the seasons.

This Creation was primarily made by Trainwiz, the author of many Skyrim quest mods. Other contributors include PrivateEye, Elianora, fadingsignal, and Kris Takahashi.

Forgotten Seasons is a brand new dungeon adventure for The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Special Edition. With grand halls to explore, dangerous automatons to battle, and unique rewards to discover, this offers a full dungeon experience replete with stunning visuals and callbacks to previous lore. Sharp-eyed adventurers can leave with ancient Dwarven treasures, including assembling a powerful crown and new mount.

Overview[edit]

This Creation adds a large new dungeon named Runoff Caverns, located in the Reach. Within, you will find the extensive Dwemer ruins of Vardnknd, filled with all manner of enemies. Vardnknd is a mechanics-heavy dungeon themed after the four seasons, and you will be required to travel through its entirety in order to shut down a malfunctioning Dwemer weather machine.

Forgotten Seasons is one of the largest Creations to date and contains a significant amount of new content, including new items, books, powers, and enemy types. It features a total of three quests, which will require a good deal of exploration in order to complete. The rewards for doing so include a new mount, a robotic Dwemer horse as previously seen in ESO.
